TitleBlueprint for a Strike by Fred Lonidier with 'Labor Link TV' #26 A & B, Good News at NASSCO?
DescriptionPamphlet written by Fred Lonidier to accompany his exhibition 'For Labor, About Labout, By Labor: Our Struggles in the U.S. from the '70s to the '90s' which was organized by Jean-Edith Weiddenbach for the Walter/McBean Gallery of the San Francisco Art Institute from 4th June to 3rd July 1992. The front and back covers of the pamphlet shows a woman named 'Jano' in 1981 screenprinting slogans onto clothing in the midst of a crowd of strikers. The book is 'A fragmentary capsule history of the ironworkers & other unions at NASSCO' (the National Steel and Shipbuilding Company) and contains excerpts from a photo-text video installation with the same title as the book. The first part of the book gives historical details of workers killed in an accident at work, the firing of union leaders, resulting strikes, prosecutions resulting from a police agent receiving information about bomb plots, disunity within the workers movement, changes in union leadership, profit sharing and wages. The second part gives transcripts from 'Labor Link TV' of speeches by Joseph Francis and Tom McCammon and interviews with Richard Castro, Louis Proscelle, Ed Turango, Robert Godinez, Peter Zschiesche and Hallet (first name unknown).
