The sky was a strange colour, not quite yellow, not quite orange. Vermin is throwing rocks at bottles to break them. Nausia comments that the river is bright green. Pungent explains that this is because of chemicals. Waste chemicals in the river are killing millions of creatures, microscopic as well as larger animals like rats. They then sing a song -'the chemicals'. They all agree that they must rid the waterways of chemicals.
