| Activity | Stan Hayward is a writer best known for his creation of the popular children's animation Henry's Cat (1982) which was directed by Bob Godfrey.
Stan was born in 1930 in London, England and spent his childhood years in Southend-on-Sea in Essex. He attended Dartford Technical College from 1942-45 before undertaking his national service in the Merchant Navy as a Deckhand. Following a brief stint as a club musician back in London Stan began writing submitting "Seven Snowballs that Shook the World" to the Goon Show in 1956.
His career in animation began through a chance contact with Richard Williams at TV Cartoon Ltd where he got an offer to write TV commercials. It was during this period that he met Bob Godfrey at Biographic and wrote "The Rise and Fall of Emily Sprod" (1960). He went on to write several scripts for Biographic and also collaborated with Halas & Batchelor on a number of teaching films.
His collaborations with Bob Godfrey during the 1960s/70s included: Henry 9-5, Kama Sutra Rides Again, Dear Marjorie Boobs, Two Off the Cuff, Rope Trick, One Man Band, Great (first draft), Alf, Bill and Fred, and several commercials.
Their most famous collaboration was the children's animation Henry's Cat in 1982 which won a BAFTA award and was shown on the BBC. Henry's Cat ran on the BBC between 1983 and 1985 for a total of 5 series, 51 episodes.
Stan and Bob Godfrey worked together again in the 1993 on Small Talk which was nominated for an Oscar for best animation short. Stan has also written several books on animation including "Scriptwriting for Animation."
